Ok this doesn’t happen too often to me, where I can listen to a single song over and over again for the entirety of the day. But there was some kind of addiction with Miles Davis’s song “He Loved Him Madly” yeah it goes on for over half an hour but it’s very visual when you’re driving around southern California. This song is the soundtrack to L.A. for me; there are a few different movies that could be made about this song.

And to think this song was a tribute to Miles Davis’s friend Duke Ellington, I could see all the session players, contributing their love for Duke Ellington in my head, with Miles sitting towards the back in contemplation, while hovering over the organ playing very lightly, till about the last ten minutes of the song he just explodes and can’t contain the emotions he feels, about his missing friend. You can hear the emotion rumbling out of that song… very powerful.

I didn’t even listen to any other songs on this album till about the third day, that’s how powerful “He Loved Him Madly” is. But when I finally got around to listening to the rest of the album, “Red China Blues” came out from where I thought all the energy was lost. Straight Blues in this track, reminds me of Cowboy Bebop with the harmonica and the guitars… good stuck had me going back for more and more all week.

I guess with the end of the 60’s into the beginning of the 70’s, musicians listened to jazz and were inspired by the new exciting sounds of Legends. Then to think a living Legend at the time Miles Davis was inspired by the sounds you make. Take the Mtume I hear allot of Santana and Hendrix in it, but I can still hear the inspiration that still lives today. And it’s awesome I just hope that the next generation can appreciate the past like I do.

One last thing I gotta say about this album is that it was a major influence on Brian Eno and his Ambient music that he helped develop especially “He Loved Him Madly”.

Im gonna end this weeks selection like I’ve been doing by say to PASS IT ON and to share with everyone. Also don’t forget to check out my buddy Lee’s show the Pinata Hour

Pavement... Brighten the Corners

This week’s selection was harder than most from the heat or the hangover, I don’t know but I had two albums I wanted to write about Charles MingusThe Black Saint and the Sinner Lady” and Pavements Bright the Corners” both are really good.

The only reason I think Pavement won out this week, is because when I hear Shady Lane it reminds of being 13years old waiting for love line to finish, so I could listen to Rodney on the Rock to hear music from all over that the day DJ’s never even touched. That’s actually how I heard Pavement, they were on love line one night while I was waiting, and I feel in love with the song I still got the cassette with a radio recording of that song some where in my mess.

I really hate summer because of the heat and the lack of AC. Music makes it tolerable to get through and sometimes there will be a song that makes me feel it’s not hot. Old to Begin makes summer cool down especially with the line “I don’t need your summary acts, summary acts” which I always believed was “I don’t need your summery acts, summery acts”. Because of that it was always an anti summer song to me easing my discomfort.

Opening up a new week with Passat Dream makes my world seem cinematic, like the week is just a montage to get the real story. It has an even flow that makes every transition easily. I always want to sing this song when I’m driving but I always forget the world because I just get caught up in the music.

I love this Album its one that gets played allot on my playlist and I have a copy that's 20 tracks deep, thank God I don't use tapes any more for that reason alone. So for this one I will say PASS IT ON and share it with everyone, your neighbors, your Priest, your Rabbi, or what have you.

Bastidas... Fantastica Bastidas

Released: April 20,2010
Length: 7:31
_______________________________________________________________________
Ok so a couple years back, I end up at some little whole in the wall spot in L.A. somewhere that was slightly bigger than my bedroom, I remember it was hotter than hell in this spot, because there were soo many people jammed into this tiny place.

At first I didn’t really wanna be there, as I had just left my EX the week before, but some acquaintances kept telling me to get out of the house and have some fun. Thank God I did because I discovered my favorite Bastidas in that place.

From the moment I first heard Bastidas tear up this shoebox place I was hooked. Never in my life had I heard such sounds. At the time everything was sounding stale to me, and I thought I had to meet this band that broke my glass shell and tell them they blew my mind. After they played their set I was introduced them and I probably gushed about how awesome they were. They were really down to earth people that were friendly to me, and from about that time on every chance I got I went out to see them (usually with a few drinks in hand).

I can say that I am a fan of Bastidas from that point on and always I’ve tried to get my hands on anything they release like their demo (which Henry the Vocal/Guitar later told me was rare to find) , and EP’s. Like their Fantastica Bastidas EP, which by the way is FUCKING BRILLIANT.

I remember I missed the release party, but I went to the next show afterwards and bought the EP from LEE the Drummer (who coincidently has his own radio show called the PINATA HOUR). They kicked ass that night at the Smell, before they did their set, we sat in my buddies car drinking Modelo Especial. But after the show my buddy and I listened to that EP like 4 times on our way back to Fullerton.

All these songs I wanted to create a video for and do some crazy things. I was beat to the punch on making a video for Hue, as a guy more talented and experienced than me named Vim Crony did the song justice. But that didn’t stop the ideas from flowing in my head. Henry, Lee, and Sonia you guys need to us more stuff soon

This week I really think this is something that I truly believe should listen to and PASS IT ON

Sonic Youth... Rather Ripped

Released:June 13, 2006
Recorded:December 2005 – February 2006, Sear Sound, NYC
Length:51:53 (international edition)
Label:Geffen/Interscope

Ok I’m gonna start out this week by saying “I love Sonic Youth.” And Rather Ripped is probably my favorite album(even though it doesn't have Diamond Sea on it). Honestly I can listen to incinerate all day. It’s got a good vibe that keeps me going, and the guitars are fucking awesome, the style is unmistakable you can tell that its sonic youth by the first few notes(and from that point on you know you’re in for a treat).

Jams Run Free Reminds me of rainy days in the 90's for reason. With all of its awesome sound. Not to say that it’s depressing sounding, it exactly the opposite in my eyes, it makes me want to walk around town listening to this song going on in my headphones for a minute. I became really visual in my head when I hear more instrumentals so this one really feeds my imagination.

I love movies and I think that music is very important to the feel and timing of a movie so when I hear Pink Stream, I wonder why I haven’t heard it in a movie yet. Something about it is very cinematic, it could be used for a drama, thriller, or what have you. It’s a good long song that has very little lyrics.

So once again I'm gonna leave off by say for everyone to PASS IT ON and for everyone to tune into my buddy LEE's shows the Pinata Hour

Porno for Pyros

File:Porno for Pyros Self-Titled.jpg
Released: April 27, 1993
Recorded: Summer, 1992
Length:39:17
Label: Warner Bros.
Producer:Perry Farrell, Matt Hyde
______________________________________________________________________

Back when cassette tape had power, Jane’s Addiction and Porno For Pyros were always in the mix, even when people thought I was weird for liking music that wasn’t Bubblegum or Rap… hell people thought I was weird for listening to Nirvana, but now a day’s even my mom likes them (Not saying their bad, it just takes a while for some sounds to be accepted).

I could honestly say that Pets was the first song I heard from Porno For Pyros, obviously because it was their first single and it was during the time in my life that I pulled away from what was expected of me culturally so I remember allot from that time. There was a whole new world that I didn’t even know existed, till I turned the dial and noticed other music. Thank God cassette tapes were only a dollar at the time for a 60 min tape.

Too bad most of the songs on this album were never played for whatever reason. I didn’t get to listen to any of the other songs till I was almost out high school and I heard a mix tape someone made of a live show. The song Meija was the one that caught me mostly because it had a Spanish title. The harmonica really caught me because at the time I believed that it was only for Blues and Jazz music, but I was pleasantly surprised.

Cursed Male started differently than I had expected till it picked up and got fast out of nowhere. I remember listening to this one while spending the day with the girl that I never got. Every time I hear this one it reminds me of that day, but those are kid’s fantasies that are only that. I actually listen to the words now, and they make me laugh thinking of some old dude trying to impress some young girl with money because he doesn’t have much more to him.

This album makes me think of the 90's and all the weirdness I saw and felt in that decade, so all I'm gonna say  is PASS IT ON and enjoy it. There maybe other people out there who may also enjoy it.

And on a final note you should listen to my buddy Lee on the Pinata hour Wednesday's at 7PM Pacific time
